Visit Abruzzo
Mostly known for its popular seaside resorts, Abruzzo is a lush mountainous region which boasts quaint medieval hill towns, impressive castles, abbeys and churches, magnificent mountains with the highest peaks of the Appenines, a system of intramountain plateaux, 3 national parks and over 30 nature reserves protecting the golden eagle, wolves and the Marsican Brown bear.
Still unspoilt and undiscovered, the countless old villages that dot the countryside serve as repositories of rural lifestyles whose traditions are still kept alive. In the summer months, folk shows, medieval re enactments and festivals provide a glimpse into the old times and offer a chance for people to go back in time.
